Preparedness Videos:
- Philmont has a whole slew of preparedness videos that everyone on the crew should view. Some of the early topics are more administrative in nature but the videos provide you with insights into how Philmont manages over 15,000 people each year, health and safety, preparedness, gear, meals, and a whole lot more. Each video is about an hour long and can be stopped, started, and sections skipped.
- Everyone should watch these videos to understand more about Philmont operations and what prepared means.

Gear Ideas:
Sleeping Pad:
- There are different types of pads, inflatable, self-inflating, roll-up/accordion. All have pluses and minuses.
- Inflatables will pack up the smallest but run the risk of a puncture losing all insulation and comfort. Klymit Static V Sleeping Pad - Inflatable (sierra.com)
- Self-inflating pads are easy to set up, a little bulkier, but also run the risk of a puncture, but will retain insulation. ProLite™ Plus Self Inflating Sleeping Pad | Therm-a-Rest® (thermarest.com)
- Roll-up/accordion are the easiest to set up, no risk of puncture but are the bulkiest (strap to outside of pack) and may not provide the comfort you need. PEAK SLUMBER Foldable Foam Sleeping Pad (sierra.com)
Pillow:
- Pillows are very personal items and but there are various options for camping.
- Inflatable: Very compact and light. Klymit Pillow X Inflatable Pillow - Large - Save 50% (sierra.com)
- Compression: Compresses down, but bulkier. Compressible Pillow Cinch | Foam Camping Pillows | Therm-a-Rest® (thermarest.com)
- Stuff sack: This is the easiest method. Using the stuff sack from your sleeping bag. Fill it with you clothing and use it as a pillow.
