Rule Number 1

It is very important that any missing or damaged parts be reported to the  Quartermaster or another adult leader as soon as possible. Problems we  don’t know about cannot be fixed.

Tent –

Set up the tent to dry. Do NOT use clothes dryers, hair dryers, ovens, furnaces, or any other heat  source to dry the tent. Set up tents outside if possible. Sweep dirt from inside and brush off any  dried dirt and mud from the outside. Check all zippers. Check for rips and holes. Ensure that the  tent is completely dry before folding it up. Scrape dirt and mud off of the stakes and poles before  bagging them. Check for missing poles, stakes, rain-flies, and any other pieces. Report missing  or broken pieces to the Quartermaster.

Cooler -

Wash inside of cooler using a solution of dish soap and water to which a tablespoon of bleach  has been added. Rinse well. Leave the lid open and allow to air dry. Wash the outside as  needed. Check hinges, latches, handles, and drain plug. Report any cracks, leaks, or broken  parts to Quartermaster.

Dutch Oven -

Scrape off food from the inside of the oven and lid as much as possible using a spatula, spoon, or  non-soap scouring pad. Fill oven half full of water and heat the water. Allow any remaining food  to soften and then scrape it off. DO NOT USE ANY KIND OF SOAP OR SCOURING POWDER  IN THE DUTCH OVEN. After all of the stuck-on debris has been scraped off, empty the water  from the Dutch oven and place it back on the heat for a SHORT time - just enough to dry. While  the oven and lid are still warm, give them a light coat of oil or Crisco on the inside surfaces. If the  inside of the oven has any rust, report it to the Quartermaster so that it can be re-seasoned. The  outside of the oven should also be wiped clean. Store the Dutch oven in its case. Report any  cracks or other problems.

Dry Box -

Wash the inside with dish soap and water. Rinse. Allow to air dry. Wash the outside as needed.

Water Container -

Rinse the inside of the container with a solution of 1/4 cup bleach in a gallon of water. DO NOT  USE SOAP. Rinse the bleach solution from the container with clean water. Disassemble the  spout and wash it with dish soap and rinse in water. Wash the outside as needed. Check the  rubber gasket and report if it needs to be replaced.

Propane Lanterns -

Inspect lanterns for cracked or broken globes. Replace mantles as needed. If a mantle is  replaced then it should be burned per the directions on the mantle packaging before the globe is  replaced. Store lanterns in their plastic cases. Report broken glass, mantles, or missing base.
